Stories
Artist, listener and culture writing about the music people carry with them.
Music Is Mental Media (MIMM) is a music culture and discovery publication that understands that music has emotional consequences.
That is the question behind Music Is Mental Media. We follow the life of music after the record: what a song means to the artist, what it becomes for a listener, what happens in a room, and why some sounds stay with us.
We are music-first. That means culture, criticism, discovery, live experience and the personal meanings people make from sound come before any label. Science is useful when it helps us understand the story; health awareness matters when the subject calls for care. Neither replaces the music itself.
Editorial work rooted in listening rather than a genre hierarchy or an algorithmic feed.
Artist, listener and culture writing about the music people carry with them.
Playlists with an editorial reason to exist: for a feeling, a moment or a way into something new.
Live coverage and photography that take the shared experience seriously, without turning cultural language into a clinical claim.
Music in film and television, and the scenes that change how a song lands.
Accessible, research-aware journalism about music, emotion, memory, identity, health and connection.
Music worth hearing before popularity tells you it matters.
Music can be made by one person and become something else in another person’s life.
The artist can tell us what they made. The listener can tell us what it became. We make room for both. MIMM values specificity over generic uplift, curiosity over easy verdicts, and discovery wherever it comes from. We are rooted here in the communities around us and curious everywhere music travels.
At least 10% of annual net profits will support organizations expanding mental-health access, resources and community wellbeing.
